Hi Leah: I think I am probably more obsessive about my dog's pooping routine, though this need not be a competition! I use compostable poop bags which I buy in bulk, carry a roll of them attachd to his leash. Dobby of course will not go anywhere near his own home, in fact will not go any place from which we can see our home. And he LOVES to poop in new places, on new walks. The structure, color and general appearance of his poop speaks volumes about his general health, so it is an all-important ritual for me to pick it up (exactly as you've described it, of course). At night I will even turn the flashlight on it to be sure of the healthful appearance of his product. These are things no non-dog owners can appreciate, even those who insist they adore doggos. You and Greenberg are welcome any time to visit Dobby and me in Rossmoor; he can poop away to his heart's content in pastoral peace-- much more satisfying to them than city streets, I think. My little guy goes on the same spot every time. Never varies more than by a couple sidewalk squares in either direction. No pirouettes. Drops trou on 1. The little lady, however, rarely deigns to go in public, much preferring to dance and delicately lift her lacy panties in the privacy of her own backyard.
I completely understand. We have chickens, 2 of them, in the backyard and in the mornings when I come down to feed them, I also pick up their poop. (Also, with Chronicle bags) I, however, am able to give it away! Chicken poop is great fertilizer, and when I have a large bag filled with smaller Chronicle bags of poop, I post in Next Door: Free chicken poop! And somebody is happy to take it off my hands !
